I believe that a good party has to have good food and good music. That being said, I don't think you have to slave over a kitchen or at the bar all night to please your guests.
Not everyone wants a Party Planner for their parties. Sometimes, you feel that a small event does not require a planner and that you can do it yourself. I'm here to tell you that you absolutey can, with minimal help from me, or anyone else!
My hostess tips help you avoid the stress so you can enjoy the party with the guests.
TIP 1: Plan ahead! Have a game plan and stick to it. Most times, the chaos and running around come to play when you forget something which comes from not planning. Plan, Plan, Plan! Whether it's a Bridal Shower, Birthday Party or JUST A PARTY - try to plan everything.
TIP 2: Don't sweat the small stuff - things happen. Most things you spend time worrying about won't ever be an issue. Unexpected things will arise, but if you are prepared you can handle them with ease (thanks to all that planning you did)
TIP 3: Choose an outfit you feel good in and get it several weeks or days before the party. Wear comfortable shoes. Truth is people - you need an outfit you can dance in, drink in, sit in (the ladies know what I'm talking about) and be comfortable. You can't always take off your shoes mid-party so make sure you wear comfortables shoes.
TIP 4: Ask a friend or family member to run last minute errands on the day of the party (pick up ice, balloons, etc.) This helps tremendously, especially because you want to be able give yourself some attention before your guests arrive.
TIP 5: Follow-UP to the above, give yourself plenty of time to get ready on the day of the party. Avoid rushing - if you feel good about yourself, you are more likely to enjoy the party.
TIP 6: Greet your guests at the door to make a good first impression and make your guests feel special. All guests that arrive within 30 minutes of the start of the party should be greeted at the door. This will prevent you from running around during the party trying to spend time with each guest. What I like to do is a add a personal touch to my parties. I have ONE signature drink and I have a tray of drinks waiting by the door. As I greet my guests, I offer them a drink. It's a nice touch and this way, you assure most of your guests have a drink in hand.
TIP 7: If you have servers then they will know that Guests should have a drink in hand within 5 minutes of arriving at the party. Give them the royal treatment. You have your servers walking around with the Signature drink of the evening for the first round.
TIP 8: And if at alllll possible - Hire help to serve your guests and to take care of everything. Bartenders, runners and servers will ensure guests are taken care of.
TIP 9: Thank each guest for attending the party with a custom party favor. This doesn't have to be expensive. Just something that defines YOU. A votive candle holder with your favorite scent; a bottle of wine with a personalized label; engraved bottle wine opener... be creative.
Sit back, relax, take it all in and ENJOY the party!
